Holiday Dinner Time!

Image
Dear Savannah Writers Group members, It's time for our holiday dinner! At our last meeting, the attendees decided that since Olive Garden ( 11333 Abercorn Street, 31419 ) worked so well last year, we should reconvene there this year. Dinner will be on our regular meeting night, December 13, at 7:00 PM. As is our usual practice, we will share an evening full of only food, fun, and friendship with no sharing of writing. However, we will vote on trying The Foundery [as a meeting location instead of continuing on with Cancun], I invite you to drop by to get an impression of it before the vote. It's at 1313 Habersham St, Savannah, GA 31401 . Please let Sally know by Friday, December 9th, that you are attending [the holiday dinner at Olive Garden] and how many will be in your party so that she can make a reservation. Since we have almost 100 members, please DO NOT RESPOND UNLESS YOU PLAN TO ATTEND. Sally's new address is sallyrountreekle

TRIBUTARIES: An Anthology of the Savannah Writers Group

Image
Although written submissions to the upcoming Savannah Writers Group print/e anthology are now closed, we are very happy to report that the publication now has a title. Tributaries: An Anthology of the Savannah Writers Group should debut soon. We have our fingers crossed! If you had prose or poetry accepted for the anthology, please monitor your email closely. I will be sending out writers contracts to ensure each writer has granted me full permission to publish each piece. When I email you I will attach the final draft of your work. If you decide to sign the contract that is also attached, you are agreeing that your piece will appear in the anthology "as is". No further edits will be made. When you receive the contract, first save the word document to your desktop. That way you can open it without it being "read only". Once you have reopened it, make you your name (byline) appears the correct way and that your bio looks okay. Then, simply d

Ladies and Gentlemen, It is official! UNCLE MADDIO'S PIZZA has been unanimously voted as our new permanent meeting place! While it may look like a small establishment from the outside, the pizzeria boasts a private back room, which the friendly staff has been gracious enough to book for our use. The food ain't bad either! The next meeting of the Savannah Writers Group will be held at Uncle Maddio's on Tuesday, 26 April at 7PM. Never been to a meeting? Don't be shy! Anyone can attend. We range from the published to the unpublished, the beginner to the advanced. Can't make it? Worry not! We meet every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month. On the agenda for this meeting is the discussion of the future of the Savannah Writers Group. Member Carolyn Vance has been hard at work on a document which should mold our conversation. Ch-ch-ch-changes! Let's Meet @ Uncle Maddio's on TUES 12 April!

The Savannah Writer's Group is in transition! We previously met every 2nd and 4th Tuesday at The Atlanta Bread Company. However, the last meeting was held at the new location of Jason's Deli. We thought it would be a permanent change, but we were wrong! We're no longer at Atlanta Bread! But we're not staying at Jason's either! The next meeting of the Savannah Writer's Group will be held on Tuesday, 12 April at 7:30 at Uncle Maddio's Pizza, which is located at Chatham Plaza, across from the Oglethorpe Mall. Chatham Plaza is the one which features World Market and Chili's. On the agenda for this meeting are the following: Susan Thompson’s presentation on Pat Conroy followed by YOUR reading of a favorite passage of his or personal story about him, Voting on an anthology title (you must be present to vote), and Voting on whether to make Uncle Maddio’s our new location.

Meet @ Jason's Deli!

http://www.jasonsdeli.com/menu 318 Mall Boulevard Savannah GA 31406 Change can be good! Meetings are still every 2nd and 4th Tuesday at 7 PM, but now they will be held at Jason's Deli! A Note from Sally: Special upcoming events will occur at the next two meetings, March 22 and April 12. March 22: I think that the location vote ignited our imaginations and creativity, which is great thing! Some folks have contacted me about discussing other changes. At the next meeting, let’s open the floor to discuss any changes we might want to make with the way we do business: do we want to have officers? A leader? A speaker’s committee? Do we want to continue our twin focus on sharing with the occasional speaker, or focus just on sharing? These are all great questions to ask. I am excited that we are examining our processes. Please contact me if you would like to volunteer to lead or co-lead the discussion. April 12: Our own Susan Thompson suggested a won

Tuesday 8 March Meeting - Guest Speaker Jim Waller

Image
On the March 8 meeting of the Savannah Writers Group, we will hear from one of our own and hold a vote for the future meeting location. A HISTORY OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE Jim Waller is a Tybee Author of novels, short stories, and poems. He readily admits he is no expert on the subject of the English language, but his presentation will be based upon knowledge garnered from more decades than he wishes to disclose at this time as a student of language. He requests, therefore, that we approach the subject as a discussion rather than a presentation and asks members to bring whatever they can add to the conversation. Members will also be called upon to cast their vote on possible future meeting locations. From the locations suggested, the locations that meet our requirements have been narrowed to these three, which you may want to visit before the vote. Happy February!

Friends of Writing, Do remember that we meet every second and fourth Tuesday of the month. This month that means we will have meetings on the 9th and the 23rd. Until further notice, our meetings still happen at 7 PM at our regular spot, The Atlanta Bread Company at Twelve Oaks Shopping Center. This month we would like to seriously discuss other possible meeting locations. When suggesting a new location, it would be helpful if you go ahead and touch base with someone there, to ensure it is free to use and no one would mind hosting a group of writers at our usual time. We will compile a list of potential places and have a vote.

Happy New Year, from The Savannah Writers Group (SWG)!
