SWG Meeting: Tuesday, June 25th

The next meeting of the Savannah Writers Groups happens tomorrow, Tuesday, June 25th at 7 PM at the Atlanta Bread Company. If you are up to the challenge, write your "Six-Word Story" to share with the group and bring any other writing you might like to share. What's it like--publishing horror?

T alk about going from zero to sixty in a couple of seconds. When Stephenie Meyer found near overnight success with the publication of her rabidly popular Young Adult fantasy series, The Twilight Saga , she went from being an anonymous Mormon soccer mom, to entertaining legions of (sometimes screaming, crying) fans and eventually becoming a multimillion dollar producer for the films which are based upon her work. In an interview I read the vital question: What's a nice girl like you doing writing about vampires? Now, when it comes to horror, Twilight is considered totally tame. Sure, there's some "body horror" in the final volume, but Meyer has taken plenty of flak for featuring vampires with skin that sparkles in the sunlight (her solution to the question of why they don't like to go out during daylight), and who are such committed romantics.
