Forrest Gump Author to Give Lecture
Winston Groom, best-selling author of Forrest Gump,
will introduce John C. Frémont, the "Pathfinder" of the West, the first
Republican presidential candidate and the 2013 Georgia History Festival featured historic figure.

Winston Groom, whose recent works have explored 19th Century history, took the publishing world by storm when his 1986 novel Forrest Gump flew to the top of the New York Times
bestseller list and stayed there for 21 weeks. It has sold over 2.5
million copies in the United States alone, and millions more worldwide.
He is the author of sixteen books, and as well as being a novelist is
also a renowned author of history, winning both awards and critical
acclaim for several of his works.
His non-fiction works include Kearny's March: The Epic Creation of the American West, which features John C. Fremont.

2013 Georgia History Festival
The Georgia History Festival is
the signature K-12 educational program of the Georgia Historical
Society. Held annually around the anniversary of the founding of the
colony of Georgia on February 12, 1733, this commemoration brings
history to life for students of all ages through a variety of programs
including a series of school events and curriculum, the two-day Colonial
Faire and Muster living-history program held at Wormsloe State Historic
Site, Super Museum Sunday, and the colorful Georgia Day parade. By
engaging students in interactive learning experiences, Georgia History
Festival sparks the imagination, develops critical thinking
processes, and opens the exciting world of the past to exploration,
study, and understanding.
