Guest Speakers Gordon & Ella Mae Rayner: Tuesday, 9 June

The June meetings of the Savannah Writers Group will fall on Tuesday, 9 June and on Tuesday 23 June. At the Tuesday, 9 June meeting, we will welcome guest speakers Gordon & Ella Mae Rayner. These High School Sweethearts have led very interesting lives. Ella Mae became an RN and Gordon did a three year stint in the Marine Corps before he joined the Border Patrol and later became a Narcotics Agent with the DEA. Through all his government assignments, the family traveled with him from state to state as a unit. Thus, the two years they spent in Paraguay were just more of the same. Gordon’s work resulted in his acquiring Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and life in retirement was not the best of times. Ella Mae had written for a local newspaper before their final move to Savannah and she also knew that if Gordon would write about his work, his depression would be less of a problem. Thus the work on Foreign Service Family Style was begun. Writing therapy was a success. ...

May Meetings of the SWG

The Savannah Writers Group meets every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at 7 PM. This month that means we will see each other on Tuesday, 12 May and on Tuesday, 26 May. At the 26 May meeting, we will welcome guest speak Bess Chappas . Bess has twenty-one years experience as a teacher and school librarian.  She is a beloved story-teller, spinning yarns and telling stories to children and adults alike.  She has written feature articles for Savannah Morning News and other publications. She  has won  Honorable Mention for an article in the Writers Digest contest and has authored the CD, "Savannah Ghost Stories"  and the children's book, "Kiki and the Red Shoes" and "Kiki and the Statue of Liberty".  She has just finished a para-normal romance set in Savannah in the 70's.  Next is a memoir of her mother, who lived to be 98.  Bess was born in Kalapas, Greece and came to U.S. with her family when she was six. SWG Meeting TUES 24 March!

The Savannah Writers Group will  meet again on Tuesday, 24 March @ 7 PM at the Atlanta Bread Company in the 12 Oaks Shopping Center. Meetings are free and open to the public! We hope to ssee you there! Please support the Atlanta Bread Company! Buy a snack! The SWG is currently in the process of compiling an Anthology to self publish in book and e-book format. We are now CLOSED to submissions, but there is cause to celebrate! We have received a whopping 67 submissions, which fit the submission guidelines and now will undergo the selection process! More info to follow! Until then, PAR-TAY responsibly! Happy St. Patrick's Day!

6 March Deadline Approaching - Details of 24 February Meeting

Savannah Writers, The 6 March deadline to submit your work to the upcoming Savannah Writers Group print/ e-book anthology is fast approaching! Its about two weeks away! Submit now! Email your submissions to: storybysasha (at) gmail (dot) com Members of the SWG who have attended two or more meetings are strongly encouraged to submit up to TWO pieces of prose (each 3,000 words or fewer) and/ or up to SIX poems to the as of yet untitled anthology. Email each submission separately. Make sure your work is double spaced. You can find more guidelines here ! Make sure to include your bio, name, pen name and word count! Don't over think it. Submit today! Remember we will accept reprints and excerpts from longer pieces. In other news, on Tuesday, 24 February, the Savannah Writers Group will meet at the Atlanta Bread Company and welcome guest speaker (and member) Mr. Jim Waller.

T he Savannah Writers Group will meet again on 10 February, 2015 @ 7 PM . Remember, our meetings, which are free and open to the public, take place every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month! As usual, we will be meeting at the Atlanta Bread Company in the 12 Oaks Shopping Plaza. On 10 February we are pleased to welcome guest speaker, Mr. Tony Morris ! Tony runs the Ossabaw Writers Retreat and heads the Southern Poetry Review . Before we dive into Tony's bio, allow me to remind all SWG members that we are now accepting submissions to the as of yet untitled 2015 Savannah Writers Group Anthology! If you are a member of the Savannah Writers Group (meaning you have already attended 2 or more meetings), this is your opportunity to have your written work published in our book.
